Class cip seems to be going on well. Hope yall are learning and enjoying the sessions there :)
For people going on the last date, 27 Nov (6 pple): Valencia (leader), Audrey, Nicole, Jia Hui, Chia Ern, Ying Ming there have been a change in activity for that day. There will be an activity carried out on that day by some organisation for the patients to write their new year greetings. So, instead of the normal going of rounds to entertain the patients there, you will go around helping to ask patients to write their new year greetings on the card. More details will be told by mscaroline [she's really nice]. Meet her at the volunteer's room at 2pm and she'll tell yall more about it :)

Dear 75, Please check out an SMB message sent on 17 Nov by Mr Chan - about the format, duration and topics tested for the various subjects for JC2 Block Test 1, which will take place over last week of Term 1 (11 Mar-13 Mar) and Term 2 1st week (23 Mar - 25 Mar) next year. Know that's some time away and you have a lot of homework to do and I don't mean to be a wet blanket or add stress, but you should still make time this hols to revise at least those topics that will be tested, especially for the sportspeople and those who will be missing lessons in Term 1. sms me if you have any queries, and happy hols! (be positive about all the work that needs to be done) :)

Hello! Here is the feedback/experience gathered from the 1st day of Class CIP. So subsequent groups, work on it. Comments in [ ] by MsS
1. Come up with a variety of tricks other than card tricks, because some of the kids may not be familiar with spades, aces, diamonds, hearts. So... tricks that are accessible to varying age groups. The range was from around 6 years to 14/15 years. Example of tricks: toothpick tricks, rubberband tricks, coin tricks, rope tricks, etc... [For a while, we were lamenting liang sai's absence......One thing to note is that you should practise the tricks before having a go in front of the kids or the smart ones may see through them.]
2. Dont get lost. Compass anyone? There is a list of wards that we can visit in the volunteer room. The other wards are not accessible because they are high dependency wards, cancer wards, etc... [Don't worry too much coz each subsequent group will have at least one person who has gone for at least one previous session and who can hence navigate; the person-in-charge Ms Caroline will also brief each group beforehand and most likely move around the wards with you all. Please observe all the rules she will lay down during the briefing]
3. Come up with other things other than tricks to entertain the kids. Some of the kids rejected watching magic tricks, so it will be good to have other options. Miss soh suggested balloon sculpturing so maybe the subsequent groups can try that out? [Balloon sculpturing is Ying Ming's idea really, which Ms Caroline agrees is a good one to try out particularly for the younger kids, though do ensure that you can come out with a good variety of shapes /designs...you could of course come up with other ideas]
4. Learn to communicate with kids, some of them are quite shy so maybe we'll have to talk to them more to prevent "moments of awkwardness". And maybe we'll have to lower ourselves to their level when talking to them. Its okay to be childish for a while! [According to Ms Caroline's experience, guy volunteers are more shy cf gals in interacting with the kids but I think for the first session, the 3 guys in the group have done a pretty good job - I'm quite impressed actually! Communication with the kids will undoubtedly be the most fulfilling part of the whole learning experience, so put your heart to it]
5. Enjoy yourself! It's a good learning experience, really :) [Ya have fun! It's fun on my part discovering the lesser known aspects of some of your classmates:)....leaders please remember to collect the indemnity forms and pass to me somehow...I will join the large group of you on 17 Nov]

Hey! All the impt parts are bolded.
The following will be the groupings for CLASS CIP at KK hospital which will start from next tues! All those who have signed up for that date, PLEASE GO DOWN FOR IT. Remember to hand in your indemnity forms as well to your leaders/ ms soh if she happens to go down for that session. oh, BRING YOUR CARDS AS WELL!!
Attire: wear a school based shirt.
EACH SESSION WILL BE 2:30-4:30 PM.
We'll be meeting at LITTLE INDIA MRT at 130pm then we'll go to the bus stop at Bukit Timah Road, opposite Tekka Market and board 56, 57, 166, 851, 980 and get off at the stop along Kampong Java Rd, outside KKH. For furtherdetails, go http://www.kkh.com.sg/ForPatientsnVisitors/DirectionsandParking/
[[[HI JIANRUI HERE. I STAY AROUND THE AREA SO TRUST ME ON THIS. YOU HAVE NO NEED TO TAKE BUS. KK IS 3MIN WALK FROM LITTLE INDIA. YOU COME OUT OF EXIT C AND YOU WILL SEE KK IN FRONT OF YOU]]]
If you're going to go straight, please inform your grp leader and meet at KK at 145pm. do not be late!
After that, we'll meet Ms Caroline Kong ( the inchage) at Women's Tower, level 4, volunteers room at 2pm. If yall need her contact number, Caroline DID: 6394 2327 HP: 9754 5733
Leaders please take note who you are. If anything crops up that day, Ms Caroline might contact you.
All those who are leaders are to be incharge of the group and lead the group around during the visit. For days with 2 groups, yall will spilt up and go to different wards. What we are going to do is actually just perform simple magic tricks like how to make the card disappear. After that, we follow their (kk's) programme and use the colouring books/ activities book/ colour pencils/ crayons donated by a nice donor to entertain the kids there. :)
Because of our busy schedule, its hard for us to meet up to learn the tricks. Hope yall remember your tricks. People going for the first day (11nov) its better if yall learn your tricks since yall are going to be the first impression they'll have. Since yall are all in BIO-O, i think yall can ask ls (if he is feeling nice) to refresh your memories abit yeah. If really cannot, you can try the coin trick. I remember that one. And the one that can foretell what card you choose. Just try remember and practice those really simple tricks so that the kids can learn as well.
24 Nov (10 pple): Grp1: Shin Yi (leader), Valencia, Jia Yee, Feng Lin, Li Jing Grp2: Beatrice (leader), Jian Rui, Faith, Felly, Nick
27 Nov (7 pple): Grp1: Valencia (leader), Audrey, Nicole Grp2: Jia Hui (leader), Chia Ern, Ying Ming, Jia Min
--------------- Remember to behave yourselves when you're there since you are representing the school. Don't make too much noise since its a hospital. And please be responsible and turn up for the dates you're signed up for cause they are very particular about this. Thanks. Anything just sms/call me :)))
